The Tesla Model S has redefined what we all thought was possible for an electric sedan and to see just how quick it is, a British YouTube channel pitted it against a Benetton Formula 1 car from the V10 era.

The Model S featured in this video is a P100D version. While this was once the flagship version of the electric sedan, it was replaced by the Model S Performance (Raven). Tesla recently lifted the Model S to new performance heights with the Plaid but even still, the P100D is a very impressive car.

In the race, the Model S gets the jump off the line thanks to its all-wheel drive system that is much more effective at putting its power to the ground than the rear-wheel drive of the F1 car. However, once the Benetton is up to speed, it quickly accelerates past the Tesla, ultimately crossing the quarter-mile in 9.6 seconds compared to the 10.8 seconds of the Model S.

A rolling race from 40 mph (64 km/h) is then held and once again, the instant torque of the Tesla gives it a slight edge off the line. Soon after, though, the F1 racer sped past.

A number of other performance tests are held. The first of these is a test that sees the duo sprint off the line, hit 100 mph (161 km/h), and then quickly brought to a stop. A formidable moose test is then conducted to see which of the cars has the handling advantage.
