Kia unveiled the facelifted 2022 Ceed, ProCeed, and Ceed SW models that benefit from a series of design changes in order to keep them fresh in the competitive European C-Segment market. The Ceed family, in its third generation since 2018, is very important for Kia as it represents 28 percent of its total sales in Europe.

Design-wise, the Ceed gets a more aggressive face. Besides the new tiger-nose grille there are larger intakes connected to the wheel arches for a 3D look. The full-LED headlights with arrow-shaped graphics are also new, integrating the fog lights. Kia gave each trim level – base, PHEV, GT-line, and GT – small design touches like vibrant red or satin chrome accents and different mesh patterns in order to further differentiate them.

Driven: 2021 Kia Sorento GT-Line Diesel Is Very Hard To Fault

A welcome update at the rear of the GT-Line and GT hatchbacks is the honeycomb LED taillights with 48 modules which bring a sci-fi look without changes to the overall shape (the ProCeed and SW retain the same units). Between them, there is also a more modern version of the KIA logo, as seen on the EV6. Finally, there is a slightly redesigned diffuser with decorative satin chrome exhausts that are now visually connected.

Exterior changes are complemented by new 17-inch and 18-inch wheel designs and four new shades (Machined Bronze, Lemon Splash, Yucca Steel Grey, and Experience Green) among the 13 colors of the palette.

Interior changes are limited to new materials for the upholstery and new color combinations. The driver has access to an improved version of the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with new graphics and a 10.25-inch central touchscreen for the infotainment supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Optional equipment includes dual-zone automatic air conditioning., JBL Premium audio system, heated front/rear seats, power tailgate, and a panoramic sunroof.

Safety equipment includes the upgraded Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Collision Prevention Assistance, and Driver Attention Warning ADAS systems. Buyers can also get the Smart Cruise Control, Lane Follow Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Warning, Manual Speed Limiter, High Beam Assist, and Safe Exit Warning.

The engine range that was recently updated includes plug-in hybrid, mild-hybrid, petrol, bi-fuel LPG, and diesel powertrains. Among the most popular options is the turbocharged three-cylinder 1.0-liter unit with 48V mild-hybrid technology producing 118 hp (88 kW / 120 hp) that’s mated to a dual-clutch gearbox. There is also a turbocharged four-cylinder 1.5-liter engine with 158 hp (118 kW / 160 PS) and the most powerful 1.6-liter with 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) for the GT performance variant.

Diesel lovers can spec their Ceed with the mild-hybrid 1.6 CRDi producing 134 hp (100 kW /136 PS), while those who prioritize economy will prefer the bi-fuel version of the 1.0-liter burning gas/LPG. As for the plug-in hybrid, it combines the naturally aspirated 1.6 GDI with an electric motor and a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox for a combined output of 139 hp (104 kW / 141 PS) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to the 8.9 kWh battery, it has an electric range of 58 km (36 miles).

The facelifted Ceed, ProCeed and Ceed SW will go on sale in Europe during the fourth quarter of 2021. Kia also announced an upcoming facelift for the XCeed crossover which will be launched soon. This model first appeared only two years ago, so we expect minimal changes.
