A refurbished 1986 Toyota Pickup has come across our desks and perfectly demonstrates just how insane used car prices are becoming.

The Pickup is better known as the Hilux in most other markets and this particular example is a four-wheel drive model with the Xtracab option that provides more interior space and improved storage. While the truck has covered 159,000 miles (~255,000 km), it looks much newer than that thanks to a comprehensive refurbishment.

The exterior is clad in a simple shade of beige with factory graphics and restored chrome front and rear bumpers. It also includes period-correct mudflaps and black fender chip guards and has a chrome roll bar in the bed with KC Daylighter auxiliary lights. There is also a spray-in bed liner, updated LED headlights, and chrome Cragar wheels with BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires.

Despite the truck’s age, the interior looks to be in good condition with tweed pattern cloth seats, a brown dashboard, upholstered door panels and tan-colored carpets. The seller, Hyman Ltd, notes that the only upgrade made is the fitment of an aftermarket stereo.

Power is provided by a fuel-injected 22R-E 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 113 hp at 4,800 rpm and 140 lb-ft (190 Nm) of torque at 3,600 rpm when it was new.

Then we come to the price. Despite the truck’s age and its mileage, it has an asking price of $47,500. To put that into perspective, you could buy a brand new Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and have a few thousand dollars left over for $47,500.
