Honda has officially unveiled the new second-generation BR-V in Jakarta, Indonesia, which was previewed earlier this year by the N7X Concept.

Honda’s latest SUV is designed to offer the “cabin comfort and practicality of an MPV”, featuring a three-row, seven-seat cabin layout and compact exterior dimensions like its predecessor.

The new BR-V brings more technology and upscale looks compared to the first generation. Design-wise it doesn’t have the signature window line drop of its predecessor, looking more restrained but also more modern, following Honda’s latest design language.

Honda didn’t release any interior photos of the new BR-V but says there is a 4.2-inch TFT on the instrument cluster and a standard 7-inch touchscreen for the infotainment. The spacious cabin features redesigned armrests, plenty of storage compartments, pockets behind the seats, 12V power outlets, eight water bottle holders, and a sun visor with a makeup mirror and lamp. Equipment includes the Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance systems, and features like the Remote Engine Start and the Walk-Away Auto-Lock function.

Under the bonnet, you’ll find a reworked version of the 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine producing 119 hp (89 kW / 121 PS) and 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels through a new CVT gearbox that is said to improve fuel efficiency. Honda’s decision not to add a hybrid into the mix was probably taken in order to keep the price as low as possible since Asian markets do not have the strict emission regulations that apply in Europe.

Since 2015, the Honda BR-V has sold more than 255,000 units with 30% of the sales in Indonesia. Thus, the new generation was developed in Indonesia, where it will also be produced. Honda didn’t announce pricing but expect the new BR-V to cost similar money to the outgoing model which started from  239,500,000 Indonesian Rupiah ($16,811).
