While the Porsche Taycan is a luxurious and expensive EV that’s out of reach for the majority of new car shoppers, Porsche is having no trouble selling it.

While speaking at the Munich Motor Show, Porsche chief executive Oliver Blume said that demand for the Taycan remains strong, so much so that wait times can currently reach six months.

“Our original production capacity for the Taycan was 20,000 units this year – we’ve sold that many in the first half of the year,” Blume told to Reuters. “Incoming orders are huge – they are good in China too.”

Blume added that the chip shortage has also contributed to growing wait times for new Taycan models.

Strong demand for the Taycan shows that Porsche’s first all-electric car has been a success – and if all goes well, its EV sales should only increase. In the not too distant future, Porsche will unveil an all-electric variant of the Macan and while it will initially be sold alongside the current internal combustion model, the EV will eventually supersede the ICE variant and certainly has the potential to be Porsche’s best-selling model.

Porsche is also said to be considering a smaller electric sedan to rival the likes of the BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3. It is understood that such a model could use the same PPE platform as the upcoming A4 e-tron EV and could share many of its components with the Macan EV, including its battery pack and powertrain.
