If you’re a petrolhad, you might find timelapse engine rebuild videos quite interesting. Lamborghini has entered another video into the canon with a new teaser clip.

The video shows a Lamborghini engine coming back together, with valves sliding easily into place, gaps measured precisely between camshaft lobes, and, eventually, the whole engine sliding into its new home. A new home that is, sadly, still covered in shadows.

We do, however, have a guess as to what is going on. The second in a (so far) two-part series about the restoration of something important in Lamborghini’s history, the text at the end of the video saying that “50 years ago it paved the road to the future” suggests that this is the 1971 Countach LP500 Prototype.

Lamborghini is already in full-on celebration mode for the Countach, having recently released the Countach LP800-4, a modern-day reimagining of its iconic supercar. Another reveal such as this would certainly be a welcome one for enthusiasts.

As Lamborghini tells it:

March 11, 1971, Geneva Motor Show, 10 o’clock in the morning. The Lamborghini Countach LP 500 in yellow made its first public appearance, thus marking the beginning of unprecedented success and changing the course of the history of Automobili Lamborghini forever […] The LP 500 was a substantially different car than the Countach that would go into production in 1974. It had a platform frame rather than a tubular one, it was equipped with a 12-cylinder 4971cc engine (one of a kind), the engine air intakes had a shark gill design, and inside it featured sophisticated electronic instrumentation.

If this is indeed that, Lamborghini‘s team will have had quite the restoration process since the concept was used for crash testing in 1974 and subsequently scrapped. If they are indeed rebuilding the 1971 car, it’s bound to be interesting.

Unfortunately, Lamborghini has provided no reveal date for the project, but we presume that now that the teaser campaign has started, the full reveal can’t be too far behind.
