It’s safe to say at this point that as the Nurburgring is to performance cars, Moab, Utah, is to off-roaders. By no means the only place that benchmarking could occur, but certainly the place most automakers go these days.

Rivian, which has really been ramping up recently, took its R1T electric pickup truck to the legendary off-roading location to take on “Hell’s Gate.”

The video claims that the vehicle is unmodified, save for a set of all-terrain tires. Powered by four electric motors, the pickup certainly isn’t lacking in ability to put the power down, even as one wheel rises impressively into the air.

Although it’s not made clear which model is seen here, the entry-level R1T makes 402 hp (407 PS/300 kW) and 412 lb-ft (560 Nm) of torque. A flagship variant, meanwhile, will make 753 hp (763 PS/562 kW) and 825 lb-ft (1,118 Nm) of torque.

Even the entry-level model will have impressive performance, though, with the ability to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 4.9 seconds, reach a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h), and travel more than 240 miles (386 km) on a single charge.

That should be more than enough to get you through any trail, but if getting you there used up more of your battery than you’re comfortable with, Rivian has also been installing charging points at trailheads around the U.S. to make this kind of thing even easier.

Although the R1T is by no means the first production vehicle to ever complete the Hell’s Gate, tackling it is certainly not a piece of cake either, as many a heavily modified vehicle has met an unfortunate end at the gate.
