The tenth-generation Lincoln Continental was an impressive luxury sedan, but it never really caught on with buyers.

In an effort to spark renewed interest in the vehicle, Lincoln introduced the Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition in 2018.

Designed to recreate the glamour and elegance of the 1960’s Continental, the 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition featured a stretched wheelbase as well as namesake rear doors that opened at 90 degrees. At the time, Lincoln said the doors allowed for “easy, graceful entry and exit” as they enabled “passengers to turn to sit to enter, then exit the car by stepping forward and out.”

The doors weren’t the only notable thing about the vehicle as it featured an upscale Black Label interior with 30-way Perfect Position seats, active noise control technology, and a Revel Ultima premium audio system. However, the real star of the show was the rear passenger compartment, which featured two individual seats that were separated by a wood trimmed center console. The latter boasted an assortment of controls as well as a stowable tray table and a wireless charging pad.

While some fans might have scoffed at the lack of a V8 engine, it’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 was nothing to sneeze at thanks to an output of 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque. It was connected to a six-speed automatic transmission and a standard all-wheel drive system.

The 80th Anniversary Edition was limited to 80 units, but Lincoln knew the model was going to be popular so they also announced a “limited number” of Continental Coach Door Editions for the 2020 model year.

Two of them are being auctioned by Mecum in March and they’re both low mileage examples that appear to be in excellent condition. The white model has an eye-catching black and white interior as well as a mere 46 miles (74 km) on the odometer. The black car has more than twice the mileage, at 100 miles (161 km), but it’s still incredibly low.

There’s no auction estimate, but only around 230 Continental Coach Door Editions were built in total and the 2020 model originally stickered for $116,645.
