Love them or hate them, classic cars signify the stepping stones that the automotive industry took to get us where we are today. Still, most of them simply can’t drive as well as modern sports cars. This 1958 Chevrolet Corvette solves that problem with the bones of a C7.

Actually, it’s not just any C7 Corvette chassis under the dapper suit of a C1 Corvette. In fact, this is an Art Morrison C7 Chassis. That means that it’s stronger, lighter, and built for even more performance than the original car. It features a fully-adjustable ride height and JRI coilover shocks too.

The whole build has taken on this retro-modern subtle quality that could easily sneak up on an unsuspecting red light rival. The exterior is stunningly classic and perfectly finished in gloss black with chrome brightwork. The cabin is filled with hand-fabricated leather upholstery, door panels, and dash treatments.

Passengers probably wouldn’t even pick up on the fact that this isn’t an original C1 if it weren’t for the custom plaque fitted to the center tunnel just ahead of the gear shift. It points to the 6.2-liter LT1 engine under the hood with its 455 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Of course, both passengers and onlookers will notice its rumble from the dual exhaust that’s nicely integrated into the rear chrome trim.

For buyers who want even more to listen to than just a big V8 howling away, a premium audio system has been added to the car. It includes Focal speakers paired to a JL amp and subwoofer. All of the sound components are controlled by an in-dash unit that looks like the factory original.

This might be the perfect blend of classic and modern. For nights out on the town it seems to be a pristine original C1 Corvette. The next morning you could find it tearing up the closest race track at full speed without concern about the mechanical components. Of course, it’ll cost quite a bit more than the average C7 or a nice original C1 too. For anyone who might be interested, it’s available starting January 22 through Barret-Jackson.
