It’s hard to avoid loving a fast wagon and that’s exactly what this stunning 1971 Saab 95 is at its core. Famously, the engine that this 95 originally came with was a V4. However, that powerplant has been replaced by one with twice the cylinders and more than likely double the horsepower since it’s now motivated by a 502 cubic-inch V8.

From the outside, the only dead giveaways that this isn’t just another classic Saab 95 come in the form of the gigantic tires in the back and the noise that it makes. In a short video shot by the seller, we get to see it peel away from a stop leaving trademark hot rod tire skids in its wake. It clearly puts down the power with that big engine.

Back to that horsepower number, we’re not sure what it is and that’s because the dealer handling the sale doesn’t know either. We reached out to them and they told us that they’re selling the car for a private party after the previous owner passed away so many details have been lost to history.

Chevrolet still sells a 502 crate motor that makes 461 hp (339 kW) and 558 lb-ft (756 Nm) of torque but again, we can’t confirm that the two engines are related. What we can confirm is that all the power this thing makes goes through just a two-speed transmission so despite it looking like it could make a killer daily driver, it’s probably less practical than its wagon shape might imply.

That’s emphasized even more when you take a gander at the rear of the vehicle. Lots of stuff had to be changed when the new engine, transmission, and rear-end was installed. One huge change that limited cargo space was the introduction of a fuel cell that takes up basically the whole trunk. Thus, it’s less than optimal for grocery-getting.

We have no idea what this kind of mish-mash hot rod might go for on Bring A Trailer but we can say that we hope the next owner puts it on a dyno and starts to record its history.
