Honda has been betting heavily on more mature for some, too boring for others, depending on which side of fence you reside, designs such as the successors to the compact-sized Civic and CR-V and the same appears to hold true for the next-gen 2024 Accord.

In images discovered in a patent filing submitted to the Brazilian government by Motor1, the replacement for today’s sporty-looking Accord has a more sober appearance.

The front features Civic-like headlights, as well as a “frowning” mesh grille similar to the North American-spec HR-V. Unlike the HR-V, though, the 2024 Accord has its headlights connected to the grille, which we think looks better. When viewing it from the front 3/4, it almost looks like the most recent Ford Taurus, and we’re not the only ones who think so. The fact is likely exacerbated even more by the basic wheels Honda chose to render this Accord with, which we assume will spawn more exciting variants on higher trims.

On the side, the overall silhouette brings to mind North America’s Volkswagen Passat. Compared to the outgoing model, the doors have been cleaned of virtually all creases save for a shoulder line at the top and a single character line along the rocker panel. The car also ditches the “spike” coming off the trailing edge of the windows, a feature that was imitated by other cars like the Cadillac CT5.

Out back, the mid-size sedan sports a Civic-style lower bumper, but probably the most notable detail is Honda’s decision to go with a full-width light bar. Interestingly, this too almost looks like it came from another Ford product, specifically the rear lights of the Lincoln Aviator.

Overall, like the Civic and recently-released CR-V, this new Accord is shaping up to have a much more mature, understated design than the car it replaces. And while it could be argued that it’s a bit too generic, we’ll reserve judgement until we see it in the metal. It’s also still unclear as to what the interior will look like or what the powertrain options will be (other than the fact that there will be a hybrid available), so that too will have to wait until this car’s official debut.
