When most people modify a Toyota Hilux, they jack up the suspension, equip it with new off-road tires, and install various other off-road accessories. The South African owner of this Hilux did something a little different.

Created by Fatboy Fab Works, this Hilux was built for the country’s Simola Hillclimb and as such, shares very little in common with a standard Toyota pickup. Under the hood, for example, these is now the same V12 engine as found in a Toyota Century.

Typically, the Century’s engine is good for 276 hp and 355 lb-ft (481 Nm) of torque. However, the tuner has added a pair of Garrett GT35 turbochargers, meaning it now churns out 563 hp and 715 lb-ft (970 Nm) of torque. Speaking with Cars.co.za, the owner notes that the fitment of fully-forged engine components means that the V12 is actually good for 1,000 hp when running on a mix of 50 per cent ethanol and 50 per cent gasoline.

It’s not just the engine that makes this Hilux special. It has also been equipped with the four-speed automatic transmission of a Toyota Supra but will soon be fitted with a manual ‘box. Power is sent exclusively through the rear wheels, meaning the Hilux is just as good at doing donuts as it is racing up a hillclimb.

The enthusiastic owner of the truck has also made a number of visual upgrades to it. For example, it is rocking a set of aftermarket wheels and has a unique wrap to promote Fatboy Fab Works.
