DS Automobiles announced a series of updates for the DS 4 just one year after the model’s market launch in Europe. These include an updated trim structure including the new Opera flagship, plus an increased EV range of up to 62 km (39 miles) for the plug-in hybrid DS 4 E-Tense 225.

Starting with the PHEV, the company suggests that “improved software control” made it possible to increase its EV range by 13 percent. This means that the DS 4 E-Tense can now travel up to 62 km (39 miles) in electric mode according to the WLTP combined cycle, when its predecessor was limited to 55 km (34 miles). DS didn’t mention anything about a possible upgrade for the existing models, so we guess that the increased EV range will only apply to the new model year.

Note that the same plug-in hybrid powertrain found in the DS 4 E-Tense 225 with a combined output of 222 hp (165 kW / 225 PS) of power and 360 Nm (265.5 lb-ft) of torque is also available in the mechanically-related Opel Astra GSe and Peugeot 308 compact hatchbacks, plus on an array of Stellantis SUVs.

The DS 4 also benefits from a revised range structure, similar to the recently facelifted DS 3 and DS 7 SUVs. The most important addition is the new Opera trim, positioned at the top of the DS 4 and DS 4 Cross range in terms of luxury and tech features. It features Criollo Brown Nappa Leather upholstery with a watchstrap-style design on the front seats which offer heating, cooling, and massaging functions. Standard equipment also includes a sunroof, a power tailgate, laminated windows, a wireless charging pad, aluminum pedals, and the DS Active Scan Suspension. However, the semi-autonomous DS Drive Assist 2.0 is optional.

The sporty-looking Performance Line and Performance Line + introduce a black treatment for the DS emblem on the grille, plus the DS 4 and E-Tense badges on the tailgate, combined with Textured Black cladding on the doors. Finally, the updated Bastile trim features Gloss Black exterior accents, Basalt Black interior trim, PolyAmbient lighting, Platinum Clous de Paris embossed inserts, a closed center console, and two USB ports on the rear vents.

The DS 4 and DS 4 Cross are still available with petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Pricing in France starts from €33,450 ($33,245) for the petrol-powered DS 4 PureTech 130, from €34,400 ($34,190) for the diesel-powered DS 4 BlueHDi 130, and from €41,100 ($40,850) for the electrified DS 4 E-Tense 225. According to the official configurator, the flagship DS 4 Cross Opera E-Tense 225 costs €55,700 ($55,360).
