Nissan finally launched a redesigned Z, but GT-R fans haven’t been as lucky as the aging model seemingly refuses to be reborn.

While there have been countless rumors over the years, Nissan just introduced the 2024 GT-R in Japan and it’s déjà vu all over again.

That’s not to say there’s nothing new as the 2024 GT-R features a host of relatively small changes.  In particular, designers have installed new front and rear fascias, a revised grille, and optimized wings.  The company says this further enhances the car’s “impressive aerodynamic performance” as downforce increases, while the drag coefficient remains unchanged at 0.26.

More specifically, Nissan says engineers scrutinized the mesh used in the grille and decided to go with a thinner design to improve cooling and reduce drag.  The GT-R Nismo, on the other hand, sports a new rear wing with swan neck-style supports as well as a nearly 10% larger surface area.  Elsewhere, the flagship sports car has been outfitted with a new front lip, rear diffuser, and canards.  The model also offers a new Nismo exclusive color known as Stealth Gray.

New Special Editions And Retro Paint

While we didn’t get the redesigned model we were hoping for, the GT-R T-spec is returning for 2024.  It builds on the GT-R Premium and is available in heritage colors known as Millennium Jade and Midnight Purple.

Besides the old school paint, the GT-R T-spec has 20-inch forged wheels with a gold-painted finish.  They’re backed up by carbon ceramic brakes that are sourced from the GT-R Nismo.

Other highlights include wider front fenders, a Nismo-tuned vehicle dynamic control system, and special badging inside and out.  Speaking of the cabin, the special edition sports dark Mori Green semi-aniline leather and suede upholstery.

In Japan, the T-Spec is being joined by a GT-R Nismo special edition.  Americans seem to get a version of it as the company will offer the GT-R Nismo with an optional Nismo Appearance Package.  It features 20-inch forged wheels with red accents, a unique clear coat carbon fiber hood, and an exclusive engine cover.

A Familiar Twin-Turbo V6 With Up To 600 HP

Power is provided by a familiar twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine that develops 565 hp (421 kW / 573 PS) and 467 lb-ft (632 Nm) of torque.  It’s connected to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to an all-wheel drive system.

The GT-R Nismo uses an upgraded version of the VR38DETT engine and it develops 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) and 481 lb-ft (651 Nm) of torque.  While the engine carries over, the Nismo benefits from a handful of performance updates including a new limited-slip front differential.  The Japanese release also mentions refined “suspension tuning,” although it’s not confirmed for America.

The 2024 Nissan GT-R will arrive at U.S. dealerships this spring and be followed by the Nismo variant in the summer.
