The folks over at Kia are developing a pickup truck that will be offered in both combustion and electric guises. Work on this vehicle that will be offered globally except North America has been ongoing for at least a couple of years now and all indications point towards it having a design inspired by the Mohave available in South Korea.

However, Kia just took the covers off to one of its most important and striking vehicles, the all-electric EV9 so this has prompted design Theottle to imagine what a truck version of that model would look like. While we have no doubt that Kia will knock it out of the park with the Mohave-esque design, we’d love for another truck, possibly for the North American market, to adopt some of the key elements from the EV9.

In creating this bold pickup, the rendering artist opted against messing with the SUV’s most important and unique design details and instead just converted it into a pickup and altered some of the proportions. The most obvious change is the fitment of a large bed where the trunk once sat but Theottle has also extended the wheelbase of the EV9 to allow for what looks like quite a large bed.

While the front fascia of the EV9 pickup is identical to the SUV, the altered rear-end has necessitated the fitment of different taillights. Whereas those of the SUV have an element that stretches up the D-pillars, the pickup adopts a full-width LED light bar.

CarScoops understands that the Kia pickup for global markets excluding North America which is rumored to get a different model altogether, will be a body-on-frame vehicle and that it will be offered with at least three powertrains. These should include a 2.2-liter ‘Smartstream’ turbocharged diesel four-cylinder with approximately 210 hp and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. A 2.5-liter turbo-petrol with 276 hp is also thought to be on the cards. Topping out the range will apparently be a dual-motor, electric model with 550 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque.
