Ford revealed the all-new Mustang GT3 that will compete in the FIA GT3 category starting in 2024. The racecar is based on the Mustang Dark Horse, featuring an appropriately aggressive aerodynamic package, a Coyote-based V8 powertrain, and a revised suspension setup while wearing the new logo of Ford Performance.

Ford unveiled its new racecar on the eve of the 24 Hours of Le Mans honoring the centenary celebration of the fabled motorsports event. The Mustang GT3 features unique carbon fiber body panels and a new aerodynamic package designed per the regulations. The redesigned face, vented wide fenders, additional intakes, side-mounted exhaust pipes, and oversized rear wing make it look like it’s ready to decimate lap times, and the competition.

The colorful livery of the presentation vehicle was created by renowned motorsports designer Troy Lee, featuring the new and simplified Ford Performance logo which is set to be used in all future racing vehicles. Ford says the cleaner design makes the logo easier to integrate in car liveries and promotional material.

The Mustang GT3 was developed in collaboration with Multimatic which was an integral part of the Ford GT racing program, and M-Sport which is Ford’s longtime partner in WRC. Under the bonnet lies a modified 5.4-liter Coyote-based V8 engine, producing an unspecified amount of power. The mill which sounds wonderful in the official testing footage, is mated to a rear-mounted transaxle gearbox. The racecar also features bespoke short-long arm suspension.

The first customer team to acquire the new Ford Mustang GT3 is Proton Competition based in Ehingen, Germany. The team will enter the 2024 World Endurance Championship including next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Jim Farley, Ford CEO, welcomed the automaker’s forthcoming return to Le Mans, saying they “are bound together by history” and adding “It is not Ford versus Ferrari anymore. It is Ford versus everyone”.

Ford Performance and Multimatic Motorsports will also enter two factory-backed Mustang GT3 models in IMSA’s GTD Pro class, beginning at the 2024 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
