Powerful storms pounded Michigan yesterday and left a trail of destruction.

Most of the damage was caused by hail and the Detroit Free Press spoke to National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Considine, who said the Davison area was among the hardest hit as “tennis ball- and baseball-sized hail rained down.”

Hail that size can be deadly and it resulted in extensive damage, particularly to dealerships which had countless vehicles on their lots. Among the hardest hit was Todd Wenzel Buick GMC of Davison, which took to Facebook to say “We have sustained damage to a large portion of our inventory and our building.” The dealership added they’re open for business, but asked “that you please have patience with us as we take steps to repair the damage.”

Nearby Hank Graff Chevrolet was also hit and they took to social media to post photos of hail roughly the size of a baseball. They added “Our business, along with many of our friends in the Davison community endured quite the hail storm. While we sustained damage to some buildings and a large number of our inventory, we are open for our normal business hours across all departments.”

While the storms didn’t stick around, they’re still being felt as DTE Energy reports 60,798 customers are out of power. That’s down since yesterday evening and the company estimates that 80% of customers impacted by the storms will have power restored by the end of the day.
