With just three days remaining until the highly anticipated debut of the Rivian R2 on March 7, the EV startup has released additional teasers to drum up interest in its upcoming, more affordable electric SUV, which is expected to significantly broaden the brand’s reach.

From the limited view provided in the cropped teaser image of the rear, it suggests that the R2 will bear a strong resemblance to a scaled-down R1S, possibly incorporating sharper styling elements, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise at this point.

In other teaser videos shared across its social media platforms, Rivian offers a brief glimpse of the R2 SUV parked in a garage. Although obscured by shadows, once again, it’s apparent that the R2 will feature a front-end design reminiscent of the larger and more expensive R1 series.

Notably, it showcases a full-width glowing white LED bar running across the front, replacing the traditional grille. This distinctive styling element is accentuated by vertical headlight stacks, playfully dubbed “Stadium Lights” by Rivian.

Previously, we had been informed about Rivian’s intention to unveil the R2 in a rather unconventional manner. Municipal meetings are normally about as fun as watching paint dry, but one in Laguna Beach, California raised eyebrows as it appeared to reveal details about the launch of the Rivian R2.

Noticed by a Redditor and then posted on the Rivian Forums, the agenda notes that city officials recommended to approve Rivian’s request to utilize a portion of Main Beach Park for an event scheduled on March 7, 2024. This came despite a number of emails opposed to the move with some calling it a “step too far” and a “disgrace.”

In the agenda report, the city noted Rivian refurbished and reopened the Laguna Beach movie theater and is now planning to “host its worldwide production launch event” at the Rivian Theatre in March. The company wants to support the event by displaying vehicles at the aforementioned park.

The rest of the document is pretty boring, but officials noted Rivian has “generously” offered to donate two vehicles to the city at no cost for three years. However, the report notes this is a “separate” issue.

The final page is a map labeled “Rivian R2 Launch” and it shows five vehicles parked on the grass. They’ll be joined by an ice cream cart and the models are slated to be on display from 3:45 PM to sunset on March 7, much to the horror of multiple California Karens.

The public is invited to visit and learn more about Rivian vehicles. However, the city noted they’ll be on display for “informational purposes only” as using city property to sell products or services is a big no-no, aside from concessions.

Rivian teased the R2 SUV last May and it’s significantly smaller than the R1S. It’s slated to cost between $40,000 and $60,000 thanks in part to a simpler architecture. Of course, we can expect to learn a lot more about it on March 7.
