• The wacky Chevy SSR is painted in Aqua Blur Metallic and has been driven just 517 miles.
  • Power comes from a 6.0-liter LS2 V8 with 390 hp hooked up to a six-speed manual.
  • It’s now up for auction and still looks showroom fresh nearly 20 years after production.

Few pickup trucks are as striking as the Chevrolet SSR. Built for three years as a retro pickup with a retractable hardtop and a design inspired by the 1940s and 1950s, the SSR has become a bit of a cult icon over the years, particularly in a world where cookie-cutter designs are so common. The SSR is unlike anything else, and this might just be the finest of them all.

This 2005 SSR, currently up for auction out of Douglassville, Pennsylvania, has barely been touched. It’s logged just 571 miles (919 km) since new and looks every bit the part of a well-preserved time capsule. The truck is finished in Aqua Blur Metallic, one of Chevy’s most eye-catching colors from that era, and it still looks fantastic today.

Beyond the striking paint, the SSR rides on its original 19-inch front and 20-inch rear cast-aluminum wheels. From every angle, this one seems to have been kept in excellent condition, free of the wear and tear you’d expect from even lightly driven vehicles of this age.

Obviously, no one’s buying an SSR to haul mulch or tow a boat, but this thing isn’t just a rolling tribute to design nostalgia. It’s powered by the same 6.0-liter naturally aspirated LS2 V8 you’d find in a Corvette or Pontiac GTO of the era, pushing out 390 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque.

That’s nearly the same output you’ll get from a brand-new Ford Ranger Raptor. Even better, it’s paired with a Tremec T56 six-speed manual sending power to the rear wheels. It’s not just collectible, it’s legitimately fun to drive. Locking this away in storage without at least a few spirited weekend drives would be a shame.
