• A Supra MKIV crashed while going straight on a Florida road.
  • It struck another car before sliding into a dealership corner.
  • The Toyota Supra was likely worth six figures before impact.

Few cars from the late 1990s are as respected and loved as the Toyota Supra. The MKIV proved to be a serious performance car, and values today reflect that. Examples in good condition routinely trade hands for six figures. Even units in less-than-perfect condition can fetch top dollar. Add one more to that list after it crashed in Florida on camera yesterday.

The incident happened at the intersection of Highway 301 and Highway 60, right outside of Courtesy Kia of Brandon. Video from the scene shows the white MKIV Supra driving eastbound at a high rate of speed. After clearing the intersection, the driver shifts, we hear the throttle pick back up, but things are already going sideways… literally.

The car drifts left, climbs up onto the center median, and briefly goes airborne. As it lands, it strafes a Toyota Corolla and begins to spin clockwise. Just as it’s about to complete a 360-degree spin, it hits the opposing curb and slams into the corner of a Toyota dealership property. From this angle, it’s unclear, but there’s a chance it may have hit a second Toyota on the lot.

Still, the amount of Toyota-on-Toyota violence seen here is obviously absurd, and the weapon is what makes this whole situation more frustrating.

While it’s unclear exactly why the driver lost control, a lack of skill and an abundance of horsepower seem to be the ruinous recipe. One person, evidently familiar with the location, offered their insight, saying, “I know that intersection really well…. yesterday it was cool, wet, overcast, and that area is full of oil from all the car dealerships in that area.”

No doubt, those factors wouldn’t have helped the Toyota maintain traction.

Regardless, it appears as though everyone avoided a serious tragedy. Given the speed involved here, a head-on crash with the Corolla could’ve proven fatal. On top of that, the Supra missed the slew of pedestrians we can see in the video. Now, the driver is likely stuck with a very painful financial situation moving forward.

It wouldn’t be all that shocking to find out in the future that their insurance got a hold of this video and used it as evidence to deny coverage. The lesson of the story, like so many others before it, is that if you have the cash to own a car like this, keep it on the track when doing these kinds of stunts. Hey, at least they ended up in a great place to trade in their old Supra on a new one.

Amusingly enough, in a new video that surfaced after the crash, an undercover police Mustang GT is seen pulling up next to a Sheriff’s Office SUV. Mounted to the muscle car was a gap cam, almost certainly intended to bait street racers or catch the aftermath.
