- Audi has showcased the Nuvolari being tested in Italy.
- Supercar arrives next year with a 987 hp PHEV powertrain.
- Only 499 units will be made, but a Spyder will likely follow.
Spy photographers recently snapped the Audi Nuvolari at the Nürburgring, but its adventures aren’t limited to Germany. Quite the opposite as the company has released a new video of a near-production prototype being tested at the Nardò proving ground in Italy.
In the short clip, we can see a camouflaged car being put through its paces, sometimes in relative silence. This shouldn’t be too surprising considering the model has a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, a 7.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and three axial flux motors. They give the Nuvolari a combined output of 987 hp (736 kW / 1,001 PS), which enables it to rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.6 seconds and onto a top speed in excess of 217 mph (350 km/h).

While there isn’t much we haven’t already seen, the clip does show the Nuvolari drifting around turns and looking remarkably composed. We can also see the model’s active rear wing in action for the first time.
As you may recall, it has three positions – known as closed, low downforce, and high downforce – and can be operated either automatically or manually. The wing also functions as an air brake and can generate more than 882 lbs (400 kg) of downforce.
According to Audi, the supercar’s short development time showcases their “determination to move faster — in development, decision-making, and innovation — while maintaining technical excellence.” They added prototypes are being “tested around the world” and their performance is being “evaluated and continuously optimized under the most demanding conditions.”
The automaker will begin accepting European orders in the fourth quarter, ahead of deliveries in the first half of 2027. Audi hasn’t officially announced pricing, but the Nuvolari is rumored to cost around $500,000 in the United States.
