• The facelifted Neue Klasse X1 will get new headlights and a unique grille.
  • At the rear, we’ll probably get tweaked LED taillights and a new bumper.
  • BMW is retaining the X1’s current FAAR platform, rather than shifting to a new one.

BMW has already unveiled several models as part of its Neue Klasse models, and even more are on the horizon. Among them is the facelifted X1, spied testing just a few months ago and now previewed with a pair of detailed renderings.

The Bavarian carmaker isn’t working on an all-new generation of the X1, but rather a facelift for the current one. The alterations won’t be as significant as with other new BMW models. With that being said, these renders depict the SUV with a thoroughly redesigned front end, which, at least in our eyes, makes it look a little nicer than the current model, though it certainly won’t win any beauty contests.

As with the iX3 and the new i3 sedan, the SUV features new vertical kidney grilles. Sprouting from the sides of these grilles are gloss-black elements that flow neatly into the redesigned LED headlights, sporting DRLs similar to those on other BMW models. The lower portion of the front end will also be very different, rocking new air intakes with black surrounds and perhaps black air curtains, too.

Given that this will only be a facelift, few changes are expected to the profile, with the door skins and handles remaining unchanged. It’s hard to know for sure how many changes will be made to the rear of the new X1, although spy shots from earlier this year suggested it would have taillights similar to the current model.

That said, the LED signature of the taillights will be tweaked. We also expect to see a new bumper, perhaps with plenty of contrasting black parts like these renderings from Kolesa show.

Crucially, while the X1 will rock some of BMW’s Neue Klasse design features, it won’t be underpinned by the Neue Klasse platform. Instead, it’ll stick with the current FAAR platform, meaning the same bunch of 1.5-liter, 2.0-liter, and 3.0-liter combustion engines is to be expected. In certain markets, hybrids will also be available.
