- Tesla introduces the longer Model Y L in the US market.
- Extended wheelbase unlocks a roomier six-seat cabin.
- The Premium Launch Series edition starts at at $61,990.
Tesla has launched the Model Y L in the US, a roomier take on the crossover that slots in above the standard car. The long-wheelbase version arrives right after the aging Model X exited production, aimed at families who found the regular Model Y’s optional third row too cramped to bother with.
The Model Y L first appeared in China back in August 2025, but the US-spec version rolls out of Gigafactory Texas. From the outside, the stretched body sets it apart, though it carries over the same design language as the standard Model Y.
Stretched For Space
What sets the Model Y L apart is its 119.7-inch (3,040 mm) wheelbase, longer by 5.9 inches (150 mm) and enough to open up a three-row, six-seat layout. The added space between the axles and a slightly longer rear overhang push overall length up by 6.9 inches (175 mm) to 195.6 inches (4,968 mm).

Furthermore, the roofline sits 1.7 inches (43 mm) higher at 65.7 inches (1,669 mm), which frees up headroom. Maximum cargo capacity reaches a huge 89 cubic feet (2,520 lt), a full 15 cubic feet (425 lt) beyond the regular Model Y. What Tesla won’t say is how that figure holds up with all six seats occupied.
Alongside the reworked sheet metal, larger tailgate, more pronounced rear spoiler, and bigger windows, Tesla has added a new Cosmic Silver paint option. For now, the Model Y L comes only in AWD Premium Launch Series trim, riding on 19-inch or 20-inch alloys with staggered tires, adaptive damping, and retuned suspension.
Inside The Launch Series
Equipment includes a 16-inch central display, an 8-inch touchscreen at the back, and a 19-speaker audio system. It also gets heated and ventilated first and second-row seats, along with heated power-reclining third-row seats. Furthermore, the limited-run Launch Series brings puddle lights, suede dashboard trim, floor mats, branded sill plates, and special badges.

In terms of safety, the company fitted extra window and beltline side airbags for third-row passengers. The Model Y L also comes with Full Self-Driving Supervised, blind spot monitoring, front-facing cameras, and integrated Grok AI.
Range And Performance
Tesla estimates the dual-motor AWD Model Y L Premium at 325 miles (523 km) of range, just 2 miles (3 km) shy of the equivalent Model Y Premium. Hooked up to a 250 kW fast charger, the EV can pull back 164 miles (264 km) in 15 minutes. Performance holds up too, with the 0-60 mph (97 km/h) run taking 4.4 seconds, a tenth and then some quicker than the shorter car at 0.2 seconds ahead.
Pricing and Availability
The Tesla Model Y L Premium Launch Series is on sale now for $61,990, which runs $12,000 above the AWD Model Y Premium and $4,000 over the Model Y Performance. More versions of the stretched EV are expected down the road.
Outside the US, the long-wheelbase crossover already sells in China, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Puerto Rico, with the United Arab Emirates next in line.
