The all-new 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban are vastly improved over their respective predecessors and The Fast Lane Car recently had the opportunity to test out the duo back-to-back.
The video below features two drag races between the duo, as well as a set of individual acceleration runs to see how quickly these two are. Of course, those who will buy the Tahoe and Suburban are unlikely to ever pin the throttle off the line, let alone actually try to drag race someone. Nevertheless, it is a video worth watching.

While both the new Tahoe and Suburban sit on GM’s T1 platform, the Tahoe tested by The Fast Lane Car was equipped with the available 5.3-liter V8 while the Suburban had GM’s larger 6.2-liter V8 mill. The Tahoe’s 5.3-liter is good for 355 hp and 383 lb-ft (519 Nm) of torque while the Suburban produces 402 hp and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm). Both use 10-speed automatic transmissions.
Thanks to its additional grunt, the Suburban has an edge off the line but it is not that much quicker than the Tahoe. This is no doubt due to the fact that the Tahoe is roughly 270 lbs (122 kg) lighter.
In the individual acceleration tests, the Suburban recorded 0-60 mph (96 km/h) times of 8.75 seconds and 9.52 seconds. By comparison, the sole timed acceleration run in the Tahoe saw it clock a time of 9.73 seconds. The reviewers are keen to point out that these tests were conducted at a track roughly 1 mile (1.6 km) above sea level, impacting 0-60 mph times by roughly 1 second.
