The third and final car presented by Ringbrothers at this week’s SEMA Show is lovingly known as ‘Uncaged’ and as far as 1965 Ford Mustang Convertibles go, few are as impressive as this one. Its launch comes 14 months after Ringbrothers launched ‘Caged,’ a very similar 1965 Mustang Convertible.
Building this incredible Mustang Convertible took the company more than 4,000 hours. Power has been sourced from a Ford Performance 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated Coyote V8 with 460 hp at 7,000 rpm and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque at 4,600 rpm. Ensuring this engine stands is a custom-fabricated engine cover. It has then been supplemented by a Ford 10-speed automatic transmission that routes power through the rear wheels.

Plenty of other changes have been made under the skin. For starters, the Mustang has a new chassis from Roadster Shop that includes revised front suspension and independent rear suspension. Additionally, it rocks Penske Racing performance coilovers, has a Woodward steering rack, and Baer brakes with 14-inch discs and six-piston calipers at the front and rear. Ensuring that the power is put down to the ground effectively are custom 18-inch wheels wrapped in sticky Continental tires. Ringbrothers says the center caps are the only original parts that remain.
Like its sibling, Uncaged is painted in Burgundy Brave and has had all of its chrome and pieces of stainless steel trim refinished to look brand new. A custom grille has also been manufactured for it alongside distinctive badges and emblems. The key difference between last year’s car and this one is that whereas Caged had a black leather interior, Uncaged has a tan-colored leather interior.
Seam Smith Designs was tasked with overhauling the cabin of the Mustang alongside Upholstery Unlimited. They have fitted new instruments from Dakota Digital and also crafted a custom steering wheel. The attention to detail is remarkable and this is no more evident than the embroidered Mustang motifs on the seats and the overhauled trunk that includes a carbon fiber floor.

“UNCAGED lives up to its name setting loose modern power and handling in a classic shape that looks at home on today’s streets,” Ringbrothers co-owner Jim Ring said at the car’s launch. “Every aspect of this build has been thoroughly reimagined. It’s lower and meaner, a mix of tradition and modern carried throughout the bodywork and into the cabin.”
