• Police in Texas have seized a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
  • The pony car was apparently racing an Audi RS6 Avant.
  • Both drivers were arrested and could be facing serious charges.

Police in Harris County, Texas recently had an eventful night as deputies seized two high-profiled vehicles including a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. It was apparently racing a wagon, which appears to be a high-performance Audi RS6 Avant.

Details are limited, but Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said the vehicles were stopped after being observed “racing at a high rate of speed.” This appears to have been on the Northwest Freeway, roughly 10 to 20 miles (16 to 32 km) outside of Houston.

While specifics are hazy, authorities said both drivers were taken into custody for “racing on the highway” and their vehicles were seized. Herman went on to say “street racing is dangerous and illegal – help us keep our roads safe.”

Despite the lack of details, the Texas Transportation Code notes that racing on the highway is typically a Class B misdemeanor. Fort Worth Police have previously said this can result in a $2,000 fine and/or up to six months in jail.

However, racing on the highway can be bumped up to a Class A misdemeanor if a driver was previously convicted, operating while intoxicated, or had an open container in the vehicle. It can even be a felony under certain circumstances.

It’s not entirely clear what happened in this case, but the post blew up on social media. This is hardly surprising as the high-performance pony car debuted in 2019 as the fastest and most powerful Mustang ever created. Key to this was a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine that produced 760 hp (567 kW / 771 PS) and 625 lb-ft (846 Nm) of torque.
