Classic Land Rovers and later Defender models have been the subject of various tuning and restomod projects over the past few years, with most of them respecting their rugged character. Still, this is definitely not the case with a unique build nicknamed the “Slamd-Rover”, which is currently up for grabs on eBay.
The wild creation pairs the boxy silhouette of the British off-roader with the shortened and slammed underpinnings of an air-cooled VW Beetle.

The current owner bought the vehicle in 2020 as an unfinished project, and finished it with the help of UK builders Dropworks Customs and Lowdown Transporters. The donor Beetle was registered in the UK as a 1968 model, but only a few parts of the original remain intact.

The wheelbase has been shortened, with a remotely controlled four-way air suspension lowering it to the pavement. This means that the new owner must forget what they know about the off-road prowess of classic Land Rovers because this thing won’t even clear a regular speed bump. Staying true to its air-cooled theme, the owner chose a set of Porsche 17-inch alloys, with a matching spare wheel mounted on the hood.

The body is sourced from a Land Rover Series III and features a matte green finish. The beige roof comes from a rare Safari model and has been chopped. All of the glass has been removed, with the exception of the split windscreen and the signature Alpine windows.

The interior has a custom bench, a wooden steering wheel, three dials and a high-mounted shifter. The rear section which is usually for storage is now occupied by the rear-mounted engine. Speaking of which, the air-cooled 1.6-liter flat-four is borrowed from a VW Type 2 Bus. The mill features twin carburetors, 3D-printed velocity stacks, and a custom exhaust with dual tailpipes.

The custom build is offered on eBay with a price tag of £15,000 ($20,000). According to the listing, the “Slamd-Rover” can be delivered anywhere in the UK or shipped around the world at an extra cost. The seller describes it as “the perfect vehicle to upset the Land Rover purist brigade!!!” adding that the reaction of bystanders when they see it rolling by is “hilarious”.
