Can Chevy’s Camaro 1LE Compete Against The BMW M2?

If you’re in the market for a rear-wheel drive sports car with a manual transmission and don’t want to plunge yourself into debt for your entire life, the BMW M2 and Chevrolet Camaro 1LE are two of the best options.

Although the two achieve similar driving thrills, they do so in vastly different ways and to the uninitiated, may not seem like rivals at all. After all, the Camaro dwarfs the M2 in terms of size and prior to its sixth-generation, was rarely noted for providing stiff competition to anything other than a Mustang or Challenger.

However, Motor Trend recently discovered that the new Camaro and in particular the 1LE model with the V6 engine that produces 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque, is more than capable of rivaling the best German cars, including the M2, which boasts a 3.0-liter straight turbo churning out 365hp and 343 lb-ft.

In their comparison test between the Camaro and M2, both are taken to the canyons and the racetrack and given a thorough rundown to discover which is the best driver’s car.

The result? Find out for yourself after the jump.

lame head 2 head. should have been the ZL1, or the SS, not just the 6cyl 1LE. I sat in a M2 drivers side, cant stand the canted angle, It sucks.

They say in the Video that they didn’t chose the SS because of what it has already done to the M4 – Their Head2Head between SS and M4 is really worth watching.
I’m not even sure if there’s a BMW that would be a comparison on the track for the ZL1.

i can’t even stand watching that Johnny Loserman for more than a couple of seconds.
i had to shut it off. i don’t even care what the outcome was. Those two butt-buddies are the antithesis of entertainment

No, that would be lispy Shmee150 or Doug DeMuro or that 12 year old from Vehicle Virgins that looks like a Family Guy character. These two actually grew on me, they have access to cool roads, cool cars, and know a bit about driving and reviewing.

        • smartacus

oh i agree with you about Doug DeMuro and the Virgin in the Vehicles kid.

But that Johnny Loserman guy has been non-entertaining since he was at Autoblog.

The last couple of years; they have been desperately trying to salvage his image by putting him in all the best cars and saying all the best pre-scripted words… because they are planning on making him Editor-In-Chief.

Seriously. Why even make this video? This match up makes no sense and I almost just turned it off when he said “V6”. Who on earth signed off on this? We all clicked it thinking the obvious, of course they used an SS V8 and now I think we deserve another matchup with that car vs. the M2! 🙂
