New Genesis G70 Wants A Piece Of Other Compact Luxury Saloons

Hyundai’s premium brand, Genesis, continues to work on the G70, which will challenge the likes of the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, and Jaguar XE, among others.

It’s currently in its final stages of development, as it should hit the market later this year, but scooped prototypes, like the one shown on video here, continue to keep their camouflage on, revealing very little of its new-age design.

However, the car is believed to be inspired by the larger G80 and G90, and it should ride on a rear-wheel drive platform, which will apparently make it lighter and faster than the new Kia Stinger, according to earlier sources.

All-wheel drive is expected to be found on the options list, and future customers should be able to choose between several engines, including the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that powers the Stinger. In the Genesis G70, the lump will reportedly receive a small power bump over its cousin, where it makes 365hp and 376lb-ft (494Nm) of torque, thus slashing the 0-62mph (100km/h) sprint probably to under 5 seconds.

    This is a very exciting time for Hyundai and KIA. I’m guessing this car will be about 150 to 200 pounds lighter than the Stinger and will probably do 0 to 60 in about 4.5 to 4.8 second range. The G70 will no doubt be more expensive than the Stinger. Obviously the G70 will be released in S. Korea first but I wonder when it will make it to the US? Spring of ’18 maybe?

      I disagree that the G70 will be more expensive than the Kia Stinger.
      This only applies to the base model of the G70 that will have a 2.0 liter turbo of around 250 hp.
      The Stinger will be positioned as a more luxurious GT than the G70.

    A bit smaller, lighter and reportedly sportier than the Stinger (which is meant to be a GT).

    Think the sheetmetal will be better than the G80 or G90, but doesn’t quite get the design cues of the New York concept (design was already frozen).

    Unless classification specifications have changed, the A4 and 3 series are not compact by any means. That would be the A3 and 2 series. The A4 and 3 series are small class.
