Just Make It Already! Mazda Vision Coupe Concept Looks Stunning At Villa d’Este

Remember the Mazda Vision Coupe concept? Of course you do, Mazda’s concept was so stunning, it even won the award for the most beautiful concept of the year and now showed up at the lawn of Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

Mazda’s tradition of simply gorgeous concepts lives on with the Vision Coupe, which features a really clean bodywork that conforms to the golden ratio of classic coupe design. The cabin is positioned towards the rear of the car giving the impression of the car moving forward when it’s stationary.

Following a tour in all major motor shows around the planet, the Mazda Vision Coupe concept was displayed under the Italian sun at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, letting the flowing lines of its bodywork come to life and wow spectators.

This simplistic approach continues inside, with the Vision Coupe concept featuring a strict four-seat configuration, an all-glass roof and a high center console acting as a divider.

Mazda never really announced what kind of powertrain lives under the seductive skin of the four-door coupe concept but this short video from NM2255 shows the car moving and getting loaded into a truck. The sound certainly resembles that of a four-cylinder engine, which should come as no surprise as Mazda is currently working on its SkyActiv powertrains.

While we may never see the Vision Coupe concept reaching production, we certainly hope that Mazda will use more of its design cues to its future models.

  • SteersUright

Gorgeous overall but the side needs a tiny but more detailing rather than just that giant slab look. Either way, Mazda will never develop the proper rear-drive chassis this deserves. I wonder if the could just strategically team up with Nissan or someone else for access to rear-drive platforms or how much they could stretch the Miata chassis?

    • I doubt about the MX-5, but joint production doens’t look so bad.

  • Six_Tymes

its design Perfection. Don’t change or add anything.

    • Bo Hanan

Mazda doesn’t have an engine for it.

      • They have that brillian Skyactiv engine, and despite what you heard. They still have team to develop rotary engine.

    • Brent Morrison

lol you can be sure they will since it’s not as practical in real life as you’d think

    • Larry Qualls

      Anything. ….

  • D3X

Love the proportions, too bad there is absolutely no Mazda platform / chassis to build this from, and making it a FWD would be a complete shame.

    • Stephen G

It’s a stunningly beautiful design. Why would FWD be complete shame? If it were FWD there may be a chance it would be affordable..

      • nellydesign

Because a FWD drive train would ruin the proportion that makes it look so good.

        • Stephen G

I don’t understand how that would be true(?).

  • What if this was the next Mazda 6?

Yes I know it’s far fetched but this would be amongst the best weapons to claw back sales from SUV’s.

    • Stephen G

It’s cars like this that caused the SUV craze. Your average guy cannot live with a car like this, as much as he might want one.

    • Larry Qualls

This is exactly what will get buyers out of SUV’s!

  • Zandit75

Looks magnificent, but sounds bloody horrible with whatever engine they plonked in the engine bay!
I think it looks even better when moving. Seeing the wheels turning and rolling seems to add another dimension to the car!

  • Bo Hanan

“Bait n switch” concept cars. I mean that nose is so far from reality that a 5 MPH bump would require replacement of the entire front clip. The headlights and the spoiler might survive.

  • U8INIT

This could be the 929 Grande Coupe…just saying Mazda!!!

  • Bob

I lust for this almost as much as (most) Bez-era Astons.

  • Nordschleife

If the next 6 comes out looking like this with the right engines, infotainment and everything, this is going to be a winner.

  • I WAS HOPING TO SEE THIS AT THE NY CARS SHOW BUT IT WASN’T THERE.

  • klowik

For a small player like Mazda, they should be bold in producing car that look close to the concept.

  • Dude

Wow that exhaust doesn’t sound good.

  • Brabusbus

    The next Mazda 6?

  • Larry Qualls

Man, when a car can stir the soul by just sitting there…..
Just pure passion! Mazda please, please build this!!
