Not that long ago, the winner of a drag race between an SUV and a supercar would have been a no-brainer.

In recent years, though, the automotive world has been treated to some very powerful and fast high-riding vehicles, so, today, the outcome is not exactly a foregone conclusion.

Take, for instance, the following video of a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk going up against a McLaren 570S. It appears that both machines are stock, so how did the latter fair against Woking’s entry level exotic?

The 570S is powered by a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine that feeds 562hp (570PS / 419kW) and 443 pound-feet (600Nm) of torque to the rear axle. According to the official numbers, it can cover the 0-62mph (0-100km/h) sprint in 3.2sec and tops out at 204mph (328km/h).

Tipping the scale at 3,201lbs (1,452kg) dry, the McLaren is significantly lighter than the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. The latter weighs in at 5,364lbs (2,433kg) and uses the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 found in the Hellcat models that produces 707hp (717PS / 527kW) and 645lb-ft (875Nm) of torque.

Officially, it can sprint from naught to 60mph (0-96km/h) in just 3.5 seconds, and despite Lamborghini rolling out the Urus, the Jeep is still the most powerful SUV in the world. But is it fast enough to beat the McLaren in a straight line?
