Top 5: These Are The Best Family Cars You Can Buy In Europe Right Now

The family car offering has never been as diverse as today, with vehicles coming in pretty much all shapes and sizes, but do you know which are the best of the best?

A ‘Top 5’ video put together by AutoTrader might answer this question and could allow viewers to better choose their next means of transport.

From urban crossovers to friendly 7-seaters, the film has them all, with a clear focus on durability, practicality, reliability and running costs, among others. And last, but definitely not least, it has to satisfy a range of different budgets, too.

The fifth position in AutoTrader’s chart is reserved for the Renault Captur. This subcompact SUV, which builds upon the Clio, adding a slightly larger body, increased ground clearance and more space inside, should appeal to consumers, as it offers “chunky off-roader styling” with “supermini maneuverability”.

If the Renault Captur seems too small to suit your needs, then you’re better off with the new Peugeot 3008. It looks great, so it’s definitely going to turn a lot of heads as you drive by, and it’s also comfortable and practical. And, best of all, it has grown out of its MPV suit into a funky-styled SUV.

By offering tons of space inside, along with competitive pricing and affordable running costs, the Skoda Superb has always been one of the smart choices in the D segment, so it’s no wonder that it’s included in the video, in the Estate body style.

Skoda has actually nailed two places in this Top 5, as the silver medal goes to the Kodiaq. The brand’s flagship SUV offers seating for up to 7 passengers, is well equipped, quiet and relaxing on the road, and also more affordable than most of its rivals.

As for the big winner, well, let’s just say this is a huge surprise, for two good reasons: the sales decline of such cars in recent years, and the actual model. But we don’t want to spoil it for you, so you’ll have to scroll down and hit the play button to find out who the winner is.

the new Peugeot 3008. It looks great, so it’s definitely going to turn a lot of heads as you drive by
Oh Look! There’s another of those blocky looking crossovers. God, there’s an awful lot of them and they all look much the same!

    • dtd

PSA should bring either the Peugeot 3008 or the new 508 sedan to the U.S asap.

    • mihsf

Have you ever seen one? It doesn’t look like any other model on the road.

      • Loquacious Borborygmus

Yes, lots. Fancy light design apart, it’s the same old same old.

    • Able

What a cliched response to crossovers. They don’t all look the same – use your eyes and stop unnecessarily hating on something just because it’s popular.

      • Loquacious Borborygmus

What a cliched response to a person commenting on the similarity of many crossovers. Use your eyes and see that the 3008 is nothing different looks-wise from the outside.

  • Earl Scheib

Kinda sad, if these are the true top 5.

    • Ilbirs

I also consider that some models are lacking in the video, like the newly released Rifter/Berlingo/Combo or the Traveller/Spacetourer/ProAce. Maybe AutoTrader concentrated on models that are on the road for more than a year, but this wouldn’t explain why there aren’t mentions about Traveller/Spacetourer/ProAce.

  • Brent Morrison

    Honda CR-V

  • Sébastien

Alhambra is 15cm longer than a Kodiaq, very noticeable: that’s new Touareg length.
Then because it’s not MQB (older) you can’t get adaptive cruise or security features like that

    • Ilbirs

I’m talking here about overall usability of the vehicle. It may be as long as a Touareg, but for sure has more of its length dedicated to the cabin than the SUV in question. For sure it’s better to seat on the third row of an Alhambra/Sharan than the same place on a Kodiaq or, worse, a Tiguan Allspace. For sure there’s a lot of people not that worried about adaptive cruise control but wanting an inexpensive form of transporting seven people around.

      • Sébastien

Why would they take Alhambra vs any Renault Trafic Passenger (or the likes) if you go that route

        • Ilbirs

Let’s rewrite the question: why would they take a minivan that behaves more like a passenger car instead of a LCV-derived passenger carrier that has a harder and not so refined suspension?

          • Sébastien

Price, space, ratio package to actual cargo/passenger volume (same reason some would still pick a mpv over suv)

  • LeStori

Afix some stick figures of Mum, dad, the kids, dog, car etc to the back window and any breeder will be overjoyed by these ugly contraptions. When over population is your game anything looks good…

    • Six_Tymes

meds, they have meds for that

  • PlonPlon

    Citroen is missing here 🙂
