This Is Our First Look At The All-New BMW X7

BMW has published the first official teaser image of the long-awaited X7 ahead of the vehicle’s public premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month.

The large SUV was previewed last year in the form of the Concept X7 iPerformance and this image confirms that the production vehicle’s design will stay true to the concept.

With this in mind, we can see that the X7 ha s the same slim headlights and truly gargantuan kidney grilles, giving the vehicle a rather odd-looking front fascia. Although only the front is shown in this teaser, we expect the road-going X7’s sides and rear to also look very similar to the concept.

Buyers of the 2019 BMW X7 will have a selection of powertrains at their disposal, including a 3.0-liter straight-six pumping out 335 hp and a 4.4-liter V8 with 456 hp. It’s also possible that customers in certain markets will be offered at least two diesel versions and one with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

A BMW X7 model for everyone.

Numerous M Performance variants are also thought to be on the cards. These will allegedly include a BMW X7 M50d with a quad-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder delivering 394 hp and 560 lb-ft (760 Nm) of torque. A potent X7 M50i with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that produces 522 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque is also likely.

Inside, numerous spy images have shown that the cabin will be typical BMW and include the same infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster as the sleek 8-Series. Also found within will be a center console just like the 7- and 8-Series. High-end leather, metal details, and wood inlays will also be found throughout.

Production of the 2019 BMW X7 will be handled by the company’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.

8 series grille is better, lean and mean.

    • Matt

But the 8-Series grille wouldn’t work on the X7, as it’s much taller than the 8 and there would too much ‘blank space’ they would have to fill up.

It is just too much and unnecessary, big and extra (??)… people will buy it because they want it, not because they need a big SUV.
personally, i cant think of anything that this can do and -say a navigator or even a highest trim expedition or even the big Caddy- can’t.

    • Matt

This will most likely ride and drive like a car. The Navigator (while nice) still feels like a big boat because it’s based on a pick-up chassis.

Also has considerable packaging advantages of being a monocoque, including a lower floor so you’re not sitting ‘knees up’ like you do in full-size US SUVs.

    • Shtekeris

Yeah, this is naturally big just for the sake of being big. And most people drive alone to work anyways. Pointless.

    is it using cullinan’s chassis?

    • Elpatore

No, this is using the X5/X6 platform, the Cullinan uses the Phantom platform.

There appears to be a lot of hate for the X7 but there’s obviously a sound business case for it, so why shouldn’t BMW cash in? And it will no doubt drive better than those American behemoths.

I wish the German luxury brands were more reliable. I will wait to see which is more reliable between the X5 and GLE before I even go to the showrooms. Maybe two years more for me! I
