Ford’s Ranger Storm Concept Would Make An Awesome Budget Version Of The Ranger Raptor

The Ford Ranger Raptor isn’t coming to America, but it’s interesting to see the automaker introduce the Ranger Storm concept at the São Paulo Motor Show.

Looking every bit as hardcore as the Ranger Raptor, the Storm is based on the Ranger Limited and features an aggressive front fascia with a silver skid plate that is flanked by sporty air intakes with honeycomb mesh inserts. Of course, the truck’s defining feature is its prominent “STORM” grille which echoes the one used on the F-150 Raptor and EcoSport Storm.

Moving further back, we can hood graphics and black plastic body cladding. The concept also has a snorkel, a silver roof rack and 17-inch alloy wheels that are wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion MTR tires.

While the Euro-spec Ranger Raptor has a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 210 hp (213 PS / 156 PS) and 368 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque, the Ranger Storm concept has a 3.2-liter five-cylinder diesel which develops 197 hp (147 kW / 200 PS) and 346 lb-ft (470 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission which is paired to a four-wheel drive system.

Besides the Ranger Storm, Ford showcased the Ranger Black Edition concept. As the name suggest, the truck has a blackout design as many of the exterior components have a black finish.

The truck has also been equipped with a revised grille, a rear sports bar and unique mirror attachments. Other highlights include revised taillights and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The chances of seeing a production version of the Black Edition seem pretty strong as a Ranger Black Edition debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year. That particular model was based on the Ranger Limited and featured an all-black exterior with a sports bar.
