There’s no doubt that the Porsche Taycan Turbo and Turbo S are both extremely quick in a straight-line but debate continues to rage about whether the Turbo S can keep pace with the Tesla Model S Performance ‘Raven.’

Drag races held between the pair have indicated that the Porsche has a slight edge, but these races haven’t been the most scientific and stirred up quite a lot of debate. In order to see how the two Porsche Taycan variants perform on the streets, Brooks from the DragTimes channel on YouTube put the two through some testing.

The two Porsche Taycans were full production-spec examples supplied by the Champion Porsche dealership. The Taycan Turbo S had roughly 56 per cent charge when tested while the Turbo had 91 per cent charge.

Off the line, the best 0-60 mph (96 km/h) recorded in the Turbo S was 2.67 seconds with 100 mph (160 km/h) passing in a blistering fast 6.74 seconds and the quarter-mile being run in 10.88 seconds at 124.52 mph (200.39 km/h). The car also accelerated from 60-130 mph (96 km/h – 209 km/h) in 9.13 seconds.

By comparison, the ‘regular’ Taycan Turbo sitting at 91 per cent charge ran 0-60 mph in 2.86 seconds, 0-100 mph in 6.75 seconds, and the quarter-mile in 10.96 seconds at 127.12 mph (204.57 km/h), almost 3 mph faster than the Turbo S. It also ran from 60-130 mph in 8.41 seconds, substantially faster than the 9.13 seconds required by the Turbo S.

Neither of the figures recorded by the Taycan Turbo nor Turbo S quite match what Brooks has been able to set in a Tesla Model S Performance with 96 per cent charge. However, if the Turbo S had a full battery, there’s a very good chance it could out-accelerate the Tesla.
