A class action lawsuit has been filed against General Motors alleging that the wheels of 2015-2019 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and 2017-2019 Corvette Grand Sport models are prone to “bending and cracking.”

The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court, Northern District of California, by Kehoe Law Firm, P.C., claims that the wheels used by the Z06 and Grand Sport used cheaper cast materials rather than being forged and that General Motors also used less material than necessary to try and save unsprung weight in the two Corvette models.

The lawsuit adds that despite the vehicles in question being sold with a 3-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, GM “is systematically denying coverage” for customers who have brought their vehicles to authorized dealerships with cracked wheels. Not only does a crack in a wheel mean the whole wheel needs to be replaced but it can also lead to tire punctures and tire blowouts.

This is far from the first time concerns about wheels on the C7 Z06 and Grand Sport have emerged, Corvette Blogger reports. For example, Car and Driver had to repair six damaged wheels during its 40,000-mile test period with a C7 Grand Sport loaner. Additionally, there have been numerous reports of wheels cracking from Corvette owners on various forums.

This isn’t even the first lawsuit regarding the issue. In May 2019, a man by the name of Anthony Nardizzi filed a lawsuit against General Motors claiming that two of the wheels of his leased 2018 Corvette were bent and that he was forced to pay $7,500 for new ones as Chevrolet refused to replace them and instead only compensated him for $1,200.
