This 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R Was Driven Just 480 Miles And That’s A Travesty

If we’re being honest, the fourth-generation Ford Mustang was definitely not the best iteration of this iconic nameplate, with truly great specs few and far between.

Then there’s the SVT Cobra R variant, which might just be awesome enough to make us forget all about the Mustang Mk4’s issues. This particular one is a 2000 model, and has just 480 miles (772 km) on its 5.4-liter V8.

The car is scheduled to hit the auction block through Mecum Auctions, June 23-28, and from afar, it looks genuinely pristine.

According to the ad, this is car no. 52 of 300, boasting a Performance Red exterior, black interior with Recaro bucket seats, a rear wing, heavy duty monotube racing front struts and rear shocks, Eibach coil springs, Brembo 4-piston ventilated disc brakes, 5-spoke cast aluminum wheels and BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires.

It’s also missing a couple of features, such as air conditioning, an audio system, rear seats and cruise control. While some of these will be missed, others simply make the car more hardcore, allowing you to simply focus on driving it.

So then what’s so special about the SVT Mustang Cobra R? Well, when it made its debut, it was the fastest factory Mustang ever produced, thanks to its 5.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 putting down 385 HP and 385 lb-ft (522 Nm) of torque.

According to Ford, it could do 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in as little as 4.7 seconds (pretty great for a two decade old car), while covering the quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds. As for its top speed, it was rated at 170 mph (274 km/h).
