Ford is working on an entry-level pickup to slot beneath the Ranger and there’s growing evidence that could be called the Maverick.

While the name was initially rumored for the ‘baby’ Bronco, leaked photos have confirmed that model will be called the Bronco Sport.

Fast forward to today and TFL Truck has received an apparent CAD drawing from what they described as an “anonymous source with insider knowledge.” As you can see, it’s a pretty conventional tailgate with “Maverick” lettering below a cutout for a Ford logo.

While nothing is official, it’s believed the tailgate belongs to the company’s upcoming pickup which has been billed as a Courier replacement. Ford acknowledged they were working on an affordable pickup last year and hinted “you can expect new nameplates below where we compete today.”

The company hasn’t said much about the model since then, but reports have suggested the truck was shown to dealers in February and featured a profile that resembled the original Ranger.

The truck is expected to be launched late next year and built in Hermosillo, Mexico. More importantly, pricing is expected to start under $20,000.

If the pricing pans out, the Maverick could be one of the most affordable pickups in America. It would also cost thousands of dollars less than the Ranger and give Ford a much needed entry-level model.

Little else is known about the truck, but previous reports have suggested the pickup will ride on the same platform that underpins the Focus. There have also been rumors about a four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
