A gorgeous 1986 BMW 3-Series tuned by Hartge has come up for sale with a $39,500 asking price.

This BMW E30 3-Series started out life as a 1986 model before it received a full Hartge H28 upgrade. While Hartge is no longer around these days, the German tuner was a master of improving the performance of BMW models back in the day.

This particular car has been outfitted with a 2.8-liter naturally-aspirated M30 straight-six engine that includes a bespoke exhaust manifold as well as a new crank and pistons. It develops a total of 210 hp and 199 lb-ft (270 Nm) of torque and comes complete with a manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, promising performance similar to an E30 M3 of the day.

Complementing the upgraded engine and drivetrain are a series of other add-ons, including a new exhaust, polished strut brace, anti-roll bars, and a special cam cover.

Adorning the exterior is a lovely shade of Alpine White with silver Hartge graphics running along the beltline. The eBay listing states that the car comes complete with Euro-spec bumpers and headlights, despite being located in Philadelphia.

The exterior is topped off by eleven-spoke OZ Racing wheels with new tires. As for the cabin, it incorporates anthracite cloth sport seats, matching door panels, and fresh floor mats. There is also a lovely four-spoke Momo steering wheel and the car comes complete with air conditioning, a rare option back in the day.

Now, about that asking price: it definitely is high, but there were reportedly just 20 E30-based Hartge H28s ever built and this one has 29,000 miles (46,670 km) under its belt.
