We all know the McLaren 720S is an absolute animal in a straight line, so is there any chance that a Porsche 911 GT2 RS can keep up with it?

To find out, Formula E driver Daniel Abt brought a 720S and a GT2 RS to an empty runway to put the duo through their paces. While the results probably won’t surprise you, it is still an entertaining video to watch.

In the first race, the Porsche got a far superior launch as the 720S struggled to put its power to the ground, spinning up in the first two gears before finally hooking up in third. However, by the time that happened, the Porsche had already sprinted off into the distance and the McLaren had no way of catching it.

To try and even things up, the drivers performed some burnouts to warm up the tires of the two cars and this time, it was the McLaren that jumped off the line and continued to pull extraordinarily well down the runway, leaving the Porsche for dead. During this run, the McLaren hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.46 seconds, run down the quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds and bolted down the 800-meter runway in 16.18 seconds.

Interestingly, the Porsche’s numbers weren’t too far behind, even though it may look like the 720S won comfortably. In fact, the 911 GT2 RS was actually quicker to 100 km/h, hitting the mark in 3.38 seconds and completing the quarter-mile in 10.82 seconds and the 800-meter sprint in 16.57 seconds.
