BMW has partnered with the Red Bull Driftbrothers to create two eye-catching M4 Competition drift cars that the duo will drive during the 2021 season of the Drift Masters European Championship.

Elias and Johannes Hountondji have been involved in promoting the new BMW M3 and M4 in recent months and their new drift cars make the road-going versions look tame. In fact, the 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine has been tuned so much that it now pumps out 1,050 hp and almost 958 lb-ft (1,300 Nm) of torque.

The exterior of the two drift cars is also adorned with all-new bodywork that makes them stand out from the road-legal model. For example, there is a bespoke carbon fiber tailgate spoiler, a pronounced rear diffuser, a front splitter, various aerodynamic winglets, and tailpipes where the rear window normally sits. The two cars are also much wider than the production M4.

“I am deeply impressed with what the Red Bull Driftbrothers have managed to coax out of our vehicles and wish both of them every success for the start of the season,” BMW M chief executive Markus Flasch said. “The result also shows how good a basis the BMW M4 Competition provides for motorsport use. From the start of its development, we had designed the production vehicle to also form the basis for our GT icon, the BMW M4 GT3, which we officially presented during the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring almost two weeks ago.”

The two cars will make their competitive debut at the season-opener of the Drift Masters European Championship in Greinbach, Austria on July 10 and 11 before heading to Riga, Latvia for the second and third rounds on August 30 and 31. The season wraps up in Tbilisi, Georgia on October 4 and 5.
