The Genesis G70 has proven itself to be an excellent sports sedan but, as far as we know, it’s not that popular among the aftermarket community. However, the G70 featured in this video is a little different from most.

This clip is the latest in Hoonigan’s long-running ‘This vs. That’ drag racing series and pits a pre-facelifted 2021 G70 3.3T against a modified Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R.

On paper, the GT-R has a bit of an advantage as it pumps out 600 hp thanks to the fitment of a large Garrett GT 3884 turbocharger, Tomei cams, a new bottom end, CP pistons, new connecting roads, and some other parts. It has also been converted to rear-wheel drive and has a manual transmission.

By comparison, the G70 is powered by a 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6. This engine typically delivers 365 hp from the factory but the owner mentions that he has given it a tune, a new intercooler, aftermarket air intake, and new injectors, allowing it to produce over 400 hp at the wheels, meaning the engine itself likely has around 500 hp. Unlike the Skyline, the G70 is all-wheel drive and has an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The G70 has a significant advantage in the first race and sprints off the line while the driver of the Nissan struggles to get it to send all of its power to the tarmac. Hoonigan changes things up for the second run, giving the Skyline the hit off the line while loading the G70 with two heavy passengers. Even still, the Skyline can’t keep up and the Genesis takes another easy win.
