The McLaren 765LT and Porsche 911 Turbo S have both proven to be incredible performers in drag races, with dozens of videos out on the internet showing them crushing the opposition in the quarter mile. But what would happen if they raced each other? Carwow’s latest video puts the two head-to-head to find out once and for all.

Starting off with specs, the 765LT weighs 2,952 lb (1,339 kg) and is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that sends 755 hp (765 PS / 563 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque to the rear wheels. The 911 Turbo S weighs 3,616 lb (1,640 kg), but its 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six sends 641 hp (650 PS / 478 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque to all four wheels. This means that the McLaren has the power-to-weight advantage, but the Porsche could be able to make up for it thanks to the launch advantage provided by its AWD.

The drag race sees the 911 Turbo S sprint away from the 765LT at launch, only for the 765LT to claw back with just as much ferocity and cross the finish line first. The next test is a roll race, which should help eliminate the 911’s AWD advantage. Surprisingly, though, it saw a similar result to the drag race, and instead of the 765LT pulling on the 911 and not looking back, the 911 managed to get the jump initially, and the 765LT had to play catch-up to clinch the win again. That being said, the McLaren caught up much quicker and demolished the Porsche once it got past.

But with everything presented in this video, at the end of the day, the 911 Turbo S is around half the price of the 765LT and much more usable in everyday life, so we’d say it’s a fine compromise, if you could even call a six-figure, 641-hp supercar a compromise.
