To our eyes, the Polestar O2 Concept is the most beautiful car dreamed up so far by the Swedish automaker. But does Frank Stephenson think the same?

The O2 Concept has been introduced as a two-door EV with 2+2 seating and a retractable hardtop. Polestar has firmly stated that it is just as a concept, meaning we’re unlikely to see a production variant reach the production linr and while that’s a shame, it arguably makes the concept all the more special.

Stephenson’s analysis of the O2 Concept’s design starts at the front end where he reveals that he loves how the front of the car looks. The car designer is particularly fond of the sharp LED headlights. He notes that whereas the current Polestar 2 has headlights very similar to those used by current Volvo models, the O2 Concept’s headlights are unique and yet still manage to maintain the familiar Thor’s Hammer daytime running lights used by existing Volvo and Polestar models.

Another aspect of the car’s design that catches the eye of Stephenson is the greenhouse. The company has managed to equip it with a large glass roof that really opens up the interior and is especially noteworthy because this is a convertible, meaning the glass roof can be folded away.

Stephenson sums up his analysis by revealing that there isn’t a single view or angle of the O2 Concept that he doesn’t like. It feels organic, he says, and has a nice combination of curves and straight lines.

While the O2 Concept will remain a study, an equally-as-evocative Polestar concept has already been confirmed for production, namely the four-door Precept. This car will serve as a rival to the Porsche Taycan and has many of the same design features as the O2 Concept.
