Waiting for your EV to recharge is about to get a lot more exciting as BYD, Polestar, and the Hyundai Motor Group have joined forces with NVIDIA to bring cloud-based gaming to cars.

Thanks to the agreement, upcoming models will have access to NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW cloud gaming service that enables people to play more than 1,000 titles including “A Plague Tale: Requiem, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Cyberpunk 2077, from leading PC game stores including Steam, the Electronic Arts app, Ubisoft, Epic Games Store, and GOG.com.”  Users will also find popular free-to-play games like Fortnite, Lost Ark, and Destiny 2.

The service will enable owners to play high quality games on their infotainment system when the vehicle is parked.  This will give drivers something to do while they’re waiting for their car to recharge or they’re simply waiting for their kids to get out of school.  The fun won’t be limited to just front seat occupants as NVIDIA noted rear seat passengers can play along if the vehicle is equipped with a rear seat entertainment system.

NVIDIA’s Vice President of Automotive, Ali Kani, remarked “Accelerated computing, AI and connectivity are delivering new levels of automation, safety, convenience and enjoyment to the car. The ability to stream popular titles from gamers’ libraries along with dozens of free-to-play games will bring the in-vehicle infotainment experience to new heights.”

It’s not immediately clear when owners can expect to get their game on but, during a press briefing, NVIDIA showed a video of people playing games with wireless xBox controllers.  It also goes without saying, owners will need to have an internet subscription to allow for game play.
