- An out-of-control classic Mercedes wreaked havoc in Greece.
- A mother saved her toddler thanks to her cat-like reflexes.
- The elderly driver had his license revoked.
Parenthood is a huge responsibility, and a woman in Greece has just shown it might come with superpowers attached. Her lightning reflexes saved her young toddler’s life a fraction of a second before a Mercedes sedan plowed into her parked VW hatchback.
The incident unfolded on the morning of June 3, near the port square of Nafpaktos, a coastal town in western Greece. CCTV from a nearby store captured the 39-year-old mother walking up to her red VW Polo and unbuckling her daughter from the rear child seat.

As the pair moved toward the front passenger side, the mother suddenly scooped up her daughter and bolted for the shops, clearing the danger zone by inches.
A 75-year-old driver had lost control of his Mercedes S-Class W126, drifting into oncoming traffic before plowing through parked motorcycles and the little Polo. The mother heard the engine howling toward her and made the right decision in the seconds she had.
The crash could easily have turned deadly for others, too. A male pedestrian was seen sprinting into a nearby shop to avoid the flying debris. The sedan also scraped the side of a Peugeot 3008 after narrowly missing another VW Polo.
As reported by CNN Greece, the woman said: “I had gone into the bakery to get something for the little one to eat, and I had her strapped into the back seat. As I was coming out, she told me she wanted to get out of the car for a bit, too. I unbuckled her and took her out. Thank goodness the child wanted to get out; if I had kept her in the back, she would have been killed.”

When locals rushed over to confront the elderly Mercedes driver, he appeared completely disconnected from what had just happened. Later, he said he didn’t know what caused the crash and wondered whether the accelerator had become stuck. He also claimed there was no time to brake and said he never even turned the sedan’s steering wheel.
Authorities confirmed the driver tested negative for alcohol, and no injuries were reported. The 75-year-old now faces multiple charges, including reckless driving. His license was revoked immediately, and Greece’s Ministry of Transport will determine whether he is fit to drive again.
