• Japanese tuner Goosfam gives the Toyota Probox a retro Land Cruiser 60 face.
  • The body kit adds square headlights, a retro bumper, custom hood and fenders.
  • Pricing in Japan starts at $4,100 for the kit and $18,600 for complete cars.

Japanese tuners seem to have an obsession with transforming the humble Toyota Probox into off-road icons. The latest example comes from Niigata-based company Goosfam, sticking a Land Cruiser 60 Series face to the Japanese wagon.

The kit is called RetroPro and offers the option between Urban Classic and LifeStyle Retro variants. Both adopt a boxy nose with the iconic square headlights joined by a simple grille and a custom bumper with orange indicators. The transformation also includes a flat hood and redesigned front fenders.

The difference is that the Urban Classic features a heavy dose of chrome, while the LifeStyle Retro trades the shiny bits with black accents. The rest of the bodywork is carried over from the donor Toyota ProBox but gains fresh shades such as beige, brown, and light blue reminiscent of the Land Cruiser color palette.

The final touch is a new set of Dossfam alloy wheels with a five spoke design and a black finish, shod in all-terrain tires. For those who want more, Goosfam will soon announce a line of optional accessories for the RetroPro kit.

There are no changes under the hood, where you’ll find the trusty 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine or the available self-charging hybrid powertrain. The ProBox is offered with an optional 4WD system, which is arguably the best option for dressing it in Land Cruiser clothing.

According to the official website of the tuner, the RetroPro kit starts at ¥660,000 ($4,100) before installation and painting. Complete vehicles are priced from ¥2,980,000 ($18,600) for the Lifestyle Retro variant and from ¥3,145,000 ($20,000) for the Urban Classic, with sales scheduled to commence on July 1st through Sano Auto dealers in Japan.

The RetroPro is not the first ProBox with Land Cruiser vibes. Another tuner called Hakobanya is offering the “70 Box” conversion inspired by the Land Cruiser 70 Series and proving that round eyes can be just as charming as square ones.
