Lamborghini just unveiled the Essenza SCV12, a track-only limited edition hypercar, available in just 40 units. Each features the carmaker’s most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever, rated at over 830 PS (818 HP). This is also the first GT car developed as per FIA prototype safety rules.

Future owners will find themselves in an exclusive club where they’ll gain access to special Lamborghini programs starting next year.

Aside from its impressive power levels, the Essenza SCV12 also comes with Capristo exhaust pipes that reduce back pressure and improve performance while emphasizing engine sound. Power is sent down through a new X-trac sequential six-speed gearbox, reaching just the rear wheels.

Other impressive technical aspects include the 1.66 PS/kg power-to-weight ratio, courtesy of a new-gen carbon fiber monocoque chassis without an internal roll cage, but also the 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs) at 250 km/h (155 mph) downforce levels, higher than those of a GT3 car.

The hood features a double air intake with a central rib, separating hot airflow coming from the radiator and conveying cold air to the roof scoop. At the front, there’s a splitter and two lateral elements, to go with the vertical fins on the side sills and the large adjustable double-profile rear wing.

“Essenza SCV12 is the ultimate expression of the V12 naturally aspirated engine, the symbol of our brand since 1963,” explains Lamborghini CTO Maurizio Reggiani.

“It is a project in which we combined the pursuit of engineering perfection with refined aerodynamics, futuristic design, and innovative solutions such as the carbon monocoque without internal roll-cage. The result is an engaging and uncompromising car, born to race and to showcase on the track the characteristics that have made Lamborghini famous worldwide, guaranteeing unique and special emotions for both the driver and onlookers.”

Lamborghini also fitted the Essenza SCV12 with slick Pirelli tires mounted on magnesium rims (19″ front and 20″ rear), as well as Brembo calipers. Grip and braking characteristics are always crucial on the track.

Aggressive looks

The exclusive Verde Silvans, Grigio Linx, Nero Aldebaran Gloss and Arancio California launch livery is a standout, while the car’s dynamic lines are said to combine the appeal of 1970s prototypes with elements typical of modern Lamborghinis, such as the hexagonal geometry.

Inside, the instrument panel and dashboard are supported by an asymmetrical carbon “Y” upper dash, while the multifunction steering wheel was inspired by F1 single-seater steering wheels. It’s a modern yet very functional design for a race car.

“With the Essenza SCV12 we pay tribute to both our racing past and the present: the large rear wing, side fins and front splitter are elements taken from the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO and GT3 EVO. This car is the perfect combination of our tradition and what we imagine for the future,” said Mitja Bokert, head of Lamborghini Centro Stile.

Exclusive experience

Each Essenza SCV12 owner will receive free storage in a new hangar built in Sant’Agata Bolognese, which features webcams so that the cars can be monitored 24/7 using an app.

Next year’s racing calendar will boast several “arrive and drive” events held at numerous FIA Grade 1 homologated circuits. Technical assistance will be provided by the Squadra Corse technical staff.
