This 11k-Mile 1999 Subaru Impreza WRX Is Pure Rally-Bred Nostalgia

A clean-looking and low-mileage 1999 Subaru Impreza WRX will soon go under the hammer through an online auction by Collecting Cars, reminding us of the golden era of WRC and the effect it had on production cars.

While not nearly as rare as the two-door Impreza 22B STi, the regular Impreza WRX is still a desirable car, especially if it is in such good condition. This right-hand drive example looks like a time capsule and only has 17,623 Km (10,950 miles) on the odometer.

The Pure White paint compliments the clean design of the first-generation Impreza (1992-2000) nicely, making the hood vents and bumper intakes more visible to the untrained eye. The head- and taillights are clear as they were back in the late ’90s, and the short rear wing makes for a more sensible design compared to the huge one on the full-blown STi.

The situation is equally impressive inside the cabin which looks like it came right out of the factory. The dark grey upholstery is combined with red accents and red stitching on the steering wheel and gearknob. The driver and the front passenger will enjoy two comfortable bucket seats with integrated headrests, while the white-faced instrument panel is all you need in terms of infotainment.

Since it is a late example of the first-generation Impreza WRX (likely a GC8F or a GC8G), the 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine produces 276 hp (206 kW / 280 PS) and 250 lb-ft (339 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels through a five-speed manual. While no match for a modern 2022 Subaru WRX, those specs were good enough to put a big smile on the driver’s face.

The vehicle is located in Joondana, Western Australia, and is expected to be auctioned soon. There are no estimates on the price it might fetch but we suspect it won’t go cheap.
