• A Jaguar F-Type Convertible slammed into a school bus in Lee County.
  • The sports car ended up wedged beneath the bus’s rear frame.
  • Remarkably, the driver walked away from the crash with minor injuries.

A chilling video captured the moment a Jaguar sports car barrels into the back of a school bus in Lee County, Florida. Fortunately, the bus was empty. The Jaguar slides so far beneath the rear overhang that the car almost vanishes underneath it. It looks catastrophic. And yet, somehow, the driver walked away with only minor injuries.

The crash happened at 8:50 am on February 18. A dark blue Jaguar F-Type S Convertible was traveling along US 41 when its driver failed to react in time to a school bus stopped in the right lane.

Footage captured by a witness shows the two-seater nearly disappearing from view, wedged beneath the school bus’s long rear overhang like a mangled metal wedge. Photos taken from another angle reveal just how severe the damage was, with the Jaguar’s right side nearly flattened and its hood and fabric retractable roof peeled back like a tin can.

The impact was violent enough to lift the bus’s rear wheels clear off the ground. Not something you expect from a low-slung sports car colliding with a vehicle that size.

Fortunately for the driver, the rear bumper of the bus stopped just inches short of the cockpit, leaving barely enough space for them to survive. It is also worth noting that the Jaguar was not traveling particularly fast, and the crash might have been avoided if the driver had slammed on the brakes or made a quick avoidance maneuver.

According to the San Carlos Park Fire Department, which responded to the scene, both the bus driver and the Jaguar driver were treated for minor injuries.

The most important detail, however, is what was not on the bus. No students were onboard at the time. Given the circumstances, that fact alone likely prevented what could have been a far more tragic story.

Speaking to ABC 7, an eye witness claims he “saw the children walking to the bus, 15 minutes prior to this happening”, describing it as a “terrible situation”. Another witness said she gave ice to the driver who had injured his pinky finger and was “a little stuttered”.

Following the accident, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated: “The safety of our students going to and from school is our top priority. This video is incredibly hard to watch, and I thank God no students were on the bus, and no one was seriously injured. I can ensure our Traffic Unit and 4th Precinct deputies have increased patrols in this area and will not tolerate reckless driving of any kind.”
